I think it would be interesting to see a map of Chinese encroachments in Nepal. There have been various investigations both by the Nepali government and independent journalists that have found several border infringements by China in Nepal, but its hard to get a good idea of them since the Nepali government has opted more to censor the news afterwards to try to keep friendly ties with China.

Considering the fact both sides have been preparing infrastructure and military personnel for a potential confrontation for the past decade now I find this hard to believe in the long term 

China has developed close and enduring military and economic ties with Pakistan, investing billions of dollars into the nation, they’ve developed infrastructure across India’s borderland in anticipation for confrontation, alongside this, they’ve developed naval infrastructure across the Indian Ocean

This is very bad. Trump threw away a 25 year old relationship built painstakingly over the years.  India was always suspicious because US always took Pakistan’s side, even sending nuclear 7th fleet to threaten India in 1971. India is back to square one now. If the largest economy in the world won’t trade with you then of course you have to make up with the second biggest, no matter how hard it is 😢.

Very unenviable position for India. The real risk is if orange men throws more hissy fit and actually asks Europeans to sanction India as well. Of which rumours are, trump is trying to do just that. Since European countries can't even do things of their own interests, this is no brainer what will happen with more pressure.

signing a border treaty based on the line of control is not a bad thing, especially China really wanted to make this happen. You already had advantage in this deal, why not accept it and move on to more important things, like build infrastructure, schools, and industrialization.

It is very difficult for China to deal with. Even if victory could be achieved, it wouldn't be cost-effective for China. This was also one of the reasons for China's withdrawal of troops in 1962. China's strategic intentions have always had nothing to do with India, and China doesn't wish to have any conflicts with India. China has 14 land neighbors, and we have resolved border disputes with 12 of them. Many of them have similar situations to southern Tibet, and the Chinese government chose to make concessions in order to create a good border environment and determine the border through negotiations.

For southern Tibet (Arunachal Pradesh you mentioned), China originally had room for concessions. We could exchange Aksai Chin on the western line for India's sovereignty over southern Tibet, which was a common practice in border negotiations in the 1950s. What's more, from a topographical point of view, it is easier for India to enter southern Tibet and for China to enter Aksai Chin. Solving the problem through negotiations is also beneficial to the people of both places.

However, for some reason, the Indian government refused to negotiate and ordered China to withdraw from both the east and west lines before negotiations could be started. This is equivalent to forcing China to make comprehensive concessions before the negotiations, and there is no spirit of negotiation.

Ask yourself, are the two border areas really important in terms of resources compared to these two large countries with hundreds of millions of people? No. If the two emerging countries can sort out the border issues quickly through negotiations, it will not only benefit both sides, but also the people in the country will not be disgusted.

However, because of the attitude of the Indian government, there is no room for negotiation on the border issue, and the matter has been inexplicably dragged on to the 2020s. Today is different from the past. Both countries have been established for 80 years. People's views on the border have long been fixed. So Aksai Chin is Chinese while Arunachal Pradesh is Indian.

Of course the two countries will keep arguing over it but it will never amount to anything except tensions.

Most people in China would definitely claim both as Chinese though. Or more likely, they don't know the specifics and are only vaguely aware of a border dispute in the area.

I think the current border conflict is manageable as long as both sides agree not to use gunpowder weapons.

Considering the inability to negotiate a mutually acceptable border solution with the Indians, I believe that using sticks to physically assault each other would be the best outcome. As long as India does not lose its mind and continues to use forward policies towards China like it did in 1962, it will be fine.
